How to Use Pureco Chalk Finish - Chalk Paint

Achieving a stunning finish with Pureco Chalk Finish Paint is easy when you follow these essential steps:

  1. Clean Your Surface:
    • Always begin by thoroughly cleaning your piece with hot, soapy water. We strongly recommend using Pureco Lemon Myrtle Cleaner to effectively eliminate grease, oil, dirt, and any residual cleaning products. This step ensures that the surface is completely free of contaminants that could prevent the paint from adhering properly.
  1. Prepare Unpainted and Previously Painted Surfaces:
    • For surfaces that have an existing finish including paint or topcoats, glossy, laminate, or ultra-smooth surfaces, use 80-grit sandpaper to scuff the surface and create texture.
  1. Address Adhesion, High-Tannin Woods & Assist Coverage:
    • We strongly advise applying one coat of Pureco Base & Blocker to assist with coverage & adhesion. Pureco Silk Finish requires some help with adhesion & a selection of colours need assistance with coverage.
    • For high-tannin woods or wood that bleeds, apply one coat of Pureco Base & Blocker, you can also spot treating any bleed as it occurs.
  1. Apply the Paint:
    • Apply 2-4 coats of paint; in most cases, 2-3 coats are sufficient. Sanding between coats is optional and can help smooth any brush strokes. For best results, use a high-quality synthetic brush like our oval brushes or other recommended options (find them HERE).
  1. Sealing Options:
